Cambodia’s Angkor Wat temple was this week voted the world’s favourite landmark.
For its Travellers’ Choice awards, travel website TripAdvisor analysed the quantity and quality of millions of comments posted on its site about more than 700 monuments over a period of 12 months.
It’s not surprising that Angkor Wat is a favourite – what with it being the largest religious monument in the world – but it did reveal an urge for travellers to make historical places a must-visit on their hotspot lists. Coming in second and third place, respectively, are Machu Picchu in Peru and the Taj Mahal in India, followed by Abu Dhabi’s Sheikh Zayed Mosque and Barcelona’s Basilica of the Sagrada Familia.
