Avalon Waterways will launch two new ships to cruise South-East Asia next year, including its first cruises to Myanmar.

Avalon Siem Reap will be launched in January to sail 13-day itineraries on the Mekong River between Ho Chi Minh and Siem Reap.

Avalon Myanmar will cruise on the Irrawaddy River from September on a 14-day itineraries starting and ending in Yangon.

The two ships will have the Avalon style and comfort offered aboard the Suite Ships in Europe, however, they will be smaller with only 18 suites each.

Both ships will be fitted in contemporary Asian style with wall-to-wall panoramic windows that slide back to create an open-air balcony.

They will also feature the Panorama Lounge for the best views onboard, a shaded open-air observation lounge and a timber-floored dining room serving a mix of western and Asian dishes.

Other features include a bar, spa treatment room, library and a fitness centre.

The announcement was made in conjunction with the release of the line’s 2015 Asia brochure.

Highlights of Avalon Myanmar’s Myanmar itinerary includes visits to Bagan and Mandalay temples and an ancient monastery at Kya Hnyat. There’s also a tour of an elephant camp at Katha plus stop in villages, schools, convents, farms and markets.

Other itineraries in the 2015 Asia brochure include the 13-day Fascinating Vietnam, Cambodia & the Mekong River, the 11-day Magical China & the Yangtze River and the 15-day Cultural China & Tibet with Yangtze River Cruise.

To mark the brochure’s release, Avalon is offering savings of up to $785 per couple on its 2015 cruises. Offer is valid on bookings made before 24 June 2014.
