Genting Hong Kong’s Dream Cruises celebrated keel laying of its latest ship, Genting Dream with a special commemoration ceremony at the shipyard in Papenburg, Germany. This marked the formal start of Genting Dream’s construction.

“We are extremely excited to officially lay the first section of Dream Cruises’ new ship, Genting Dream,” said, Tan Sri Lim Kok Thay, Chairman and Chief Executive Officer, Genting Hong Kong. “Genting Dream will set new standards at every level – from its quality construction and detailed design, to best in class service and a diversity of entertainment, dining, leisure and recreation options, for a truly unforgettable guest experience.”

During the traditional ceremony, block number 2, one of 92 blocks that will eventually complete the 151,000 tonnage ship, was lifted into the building dock to officially start the block assembly for Genting Dream. In keeping with tradition, the cruise liner’s Chairman Tan Sri Lim Kok Thay laid the customary “lucky coin”  as a symbol of good fortune under the keel block of the new vessel to bless the ship.

After completion, Genting Dream is touted to be among the most spacious cruise ships in the world, with over 70 percent of staterooms featuring private balconies. A 2000 member crew will be recruited, making it 1 crew member to every 1.7 guests. There will be over 35 restaurants and bars and a 610 meter wrap around promenade enhancing seaside dining from sunrise to sunset.

Genting Dream guests can also look forward to a rope climbing course, mahjong rooms, a bowling alley, duty free shopping and many engaging activities like wine tasting, state of the art Asian and Western Spas, mentioned their press release.
