Asean Cruise News speaks to Princess Academy’s top graduates on how training has benefited their career.
With 17 ships and 360 itineraries, it’s tough for travel agents to know everything about Princess Cruises. However, the brand has made it easier for agents to enrich their sales skills and knowledge of the cruise liner, with its Princess Academy online training programme.
Launched in 2006, the programme aims to equip agents with the skillset to market suitable itineraries for different consumers. It also helps agents raise the value proposition of cruising to the consumer and address misconceptions about cruising.
To date, Princess Academy has enrolled more than 90,000 consultants, with more than 1.9 million courses completed. Around 40 product and sales training courses are available, with agents moving up four ranks − First Officer, Staff Captain, Captain and Commodore − as they successfully complete coursework. Agents who reach the highest level of Commodore earn a free graduation cruise, a certificate and a cruise pin.
We speak to three of Princess Academy’s Commodores in Southeast Asia on their experience with the programme.
Kim Wee, Cruise Consultant at Cruise Connexions (Singapore)
Years of experience in travel trade: 8
I‘ve been working in the travel industry for 8 years, and my travel agency currently specialises in cruise products. I joined Princess’ agent training programme as it provides more in-depth information that you might not be able to get on the website. I can now handle experienced cruises better.
What stood out for me about the training process was how easy and time-saving it was. I can do it anywhere and anytime.
Most importantly, I can sell Princess with more confidence now. The chances that I get of close the deal are much higher than before.
Lianna Wijaya, Cruise Consultant at Cruise Centre (Jakarta)

As a frontliner and cruise consultant, we need to have the most updated information about the product. This training is the best way to improve our product knowledge about Princess Cruises, destinations, the fleet and also learn to use the booking systems. The training modules are very comprehensive, detailed, easy to understand and extremely user-friendly.
I like the flexible timing as well. I am busy in the office during the day, so I can do the training after work hours. I’ve also encouraged all my new colleagues to join the training, so that they can improve and develop their skills too.
Princess’ agent training programme has definitely built my confidence in explaining Princess’ products and destinations to potential consumers. And for my graduation trip − I was rewarded with a Diamond Princess Cruise to Japan & Taiwan. I’ve loved to travel since I was young, and it was such a memorable trip!
Lim Yee Sher, Sales & Marketing Manager at Citystate Travel (Singapore)
Years of experience in travel trade: 18
My expertise is in the cruising sector, and my role is to plan all marketing activities with our cruise line partners and develop partnerships to grow the business. As such, I wanted to improve my product knowledge on Princess Cruises so I can promote the product with confidence.
Furthermore, we are awarded the status of Commodores and also a one-time free cruise after completing the programme. This is very important as we can understand the product further by experiencing it ourselves.
