It’s a world first – Singapore’s Changi Airport has opened its newest lifestyle and tourist destination, Jewel – an airport lounge like no other.
The $1.7 million SGD plant-filled greenhouse spanning five-stories and over 280 retail stores, eateries and green public spaces, has been completed after four years of construction.
And coming soon – a special lounge for cruise passengers to relax and recover after long flights while their luggage is smoothly couriered to their cabins at waiting vessels at the Marina Bay Cruise Terminal Singapore, or the Singapore Cruise Terminal.
Docking passengers will be able to use the lounge at the end of their sea journey. Passengers will also have the option to send their luggage to Changi while they enjoy a few hours in Singapore.
The cost of using the lounge is yet to be released, as its the opening date.
The first public visitors gathered around the Jewel’s Rain Vortex, the world’s tallest indoor waterfall and the centrepiece of the glass and steel dome designed by Moshe Safdie of Safdie Architects.
Other lush greenery in the building can be found in the Forest Valley and the Canopy Park, where over 2,000 trees and palms and over 100,000 shrubs, hailing from Australia, China, Malaysia, Spain, Thailand, and the USA lines the walking trails, smaller waterfalls and seating areas.
The Canopy Park features a 164-foot-long bridge suspended in the air, to provide guests an integrated playscape with breathtaking views as well as bouncing and walking nets.
The Jewel is built as an extension to Terminal 1 but it is linked to Terminal 2 and 3 by footbridges and skytrain, while a shuttle bus service connects Terminal 4 to the hub.
Other facilities in the Jewel include early check-in facilities and lounge that will serve passengers of 26 airlines including Singapore Airlines, SilkAir and Scoot.
Cruisers can easily check-in and deposit their luggage post cruise to explore Jewel and other facilities at the Chang Airport terminals.
Guests that are looking for a place to take a short rest in privacy can also head to Yotel, which offers the convenience of booking rooms for a minimum of four hours.
Yotel will have a 24-hour gym, self-check-in kiosks and a club lounge with views overlooking the 40m-high Rain Vortex.
