Female travel agents from around the world have only a few hours left to submit their entry to be named godmother of Costa Cruises’ next flagship, Costa Diadema.
The competition closes on 15 September. So far 500 travel agents from more than 50 countries have applied for the prestigious position.
As part of the entry, candidates must submit their Costa agency code, a photo and answer three questions that will allow the cruise line to know them better.
The application form is available in Italian, French, German, English and Spanish.
The winner/godmother will be announced on 15 October. There will also be four runner-ups who will be named the ship’s bridesmaids.
As well as receiving the prestigious title, the godmother will perform traditional duties at the ship’s christening on 7 November.
She will be seated close to Costa Diadema’s Captain, cut the ribbon and break a bottle of champagne on the bow of the new flagship.
After the christening she will attend a gala dinner onboard, sitting at the central table as the guest of honour.
Costa Diadema is the line’s newest ship and has been dubbed the ‘jewel of the fleet’ because her name is Italian for ‘tiara’.
When she launches she will weigh 132,500-tonnes and carry 4,947 passengers.
The ship will depart on her inaugural cruise on 8 November from Savona on a seven-day western Mediterranean itinerary with calls at Marseille, Barcelona, Palma de Mallorca, Naples and La Spezia.
