Aqua Expeditions has postponed the launch of its new luxury cruise ship on the Mekong River by two weeks.

The new ship, Aqua Mekong, is still being completed at a Vietnamese shipyard in Ho Chi Minh.

The 20-suite Aqua Mekong will now set off on its inaugural Mekong River cruise from Ho Chi Minh to Siem Reap on October 14. It was originally scheduled to launch on September 30.

Construction of the new vessel began in February this year with the hull completed in May, a spokesperson told ASEAN Cruising. Affected guests have been rebooked on later cruises.

Aqua Mekong is the line’s first Asian ship and will feature an Asian style using local fabrics. The ship will feature an Asian menu created by Australian chef David Thompson, known for his innovative Thai cuisine.

Aqua Expeditions currently operate two luxury vessels on the Amazon in South America.
