More cruise products is good news for Asian travel agents

Announced in the recently launched CLIA’s Asia Cruise Trend Report, 2018 will see 38 cruise brands deployed and more ships in Asian waters.

There will be a broader variety of cruise products with significant increases in large (2,000 to 3,500 passengers) as well as small upscale ships deployed in Asia.

What does this mean for travel agents?

It means that more than ever, travel agents need to be versatile in selling various types of cruises. With more variation of cruise products, it spells good news for travel agents to be able to target different consumer segments. The ability to provide options to your customers will then allow you to engage both new-to-cruise and existing cruisers in exciting ways.

Time-poor travel agents might find the array of cruises confusing but fret not, CLIA is here to help!

For the first time, Choose Cruise – a month-long worldwide campaign happening in October – is coming to Asia. Choose Cruise aims to promote cruising as the preferred holiday style and encourages travellers to book their dream cruise holiday via a CLIA-accredited travel agent.

Weekly themes of Ocean, River, Luxury and Expedition that will engage those who are new-to-cruise and existing cruisers in exciting ways will be featured. Useful information on these themes will be available on the CLIA Asia’s website, and travel agents can use it to propagate the message of these various types of cruises that will appeal to the very different audience.

For CLIA’s members, they will also have access to marketing toolkit (from 15 August) with materials such as customisable media releases, newsletter articles, social media tiles and infographics, which member agents can use to develop promotional material targeting local media, their email database of clients (and prospective clients) and their social media followers.

Cruise Lines International Association (CLIA)’s membership offers a globally recognised online training and accreditation programme – specially designed for travel agents – with modules dedicated to cruising related topics, river cruising and key destinations. Visit www.cliaasia.org to join.
